Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) Checklist

Use this checklist to verify a control panel or machine at the factory before shipping. Adapt it to your project specification. Ticks and notes are saved on this device.

1. Documents and preparation

Latest approved drawings, I/O list and bill of materials are available
Test procedure and acceptance criteria are agreed with the customer
Test equipment is identified and within calibration
Customer or inspector witnesses are notified and attending
Software version and program backup are recorded

2. Visual and mechanical inspection

Enclosure type, rating and finish match the specification
Components match the drawings and bill of materials
Nameplates, device tags and warning labels are fitted and correct
Mounting, door hinges, latches and gaskets are sound
Panel interior is clean, with no debris or loose hardware
Wire duct, supports and cable entries are installed correctly

3. Wiring and grounding

Wire numbers and terminal labels match the drawings
Terminations are tight, with no stray strands and no damaged insulation
Torque values are checked where specified
Grounding and bonding are installed and continuity is verified
Power and control wiring are separated as designed
Shields are terminated as designed

4. Electrical tests

Insulation resistance test is completed and recorded (to the specified procedure)
Voltage ratings of the supply and control power are verified
Phase rotation and voltage are checked before energizing motors
Overcurrent protection ratings and settings match the drawings
Power supplies and transformers are verified under load

5. Power-up and controller

Panel energizes without faults or unexpected indications
Controller, drives and network devices start and show healthy status
Network addresses and device names match the documentation
Clock, memory and battery status are checked

6. Input and output checks

Every digital input is verified against the I/O list
Every digital output is verified against the I/O list
Every analog input is checked at low, mid and high values
Every analog output is checked at low, mid and high values
Scaling and engineering units are verified
Spare I/O is identified and documented

7. Functional tests

Operating modes (manual, automatic, maintenance) work as specified
Sequences run correctly from start to finish
Interlocks and permissives work as specified
Alarms and warnings trigger, display and clear correctly
Fault and recovery conditions are tested
Operator screens, buttons and indicators work as specified
Drives and motors run in both directions and speeds as specified
Communications loss and recovery are tested

8. Safety functions

Emergency stops stop the machine as designed
Safety relays and safety controller functions are tested
Guard interlocks and light curtains are tested
Safety reset behavior is verified
Safety function test results are recorded

9. Completion

Punch list items are recorded, with owners and dates
Final program and configuration backups are saved and labeled
As-built drawings are updated or the changes are marked up
Test records and signed results are filed
Customer has accepted the results or the open items are agreed
