Site Acceptance Test (SAT) Checklist

Use this checklist to verify a control system on site after installation and before handover. Adapt it to your project. Ticks and notes are saved on this device.

1. Before you start

FAT results and open items are reviewed
Test procedure, acceptance criteria and schedule are agreed with the owner
Lockout, permit and site safety requirements are in place
Latest drawings and program backups are on site
Utilities (power, air, water, network) are available as required

2. Installation verification

Equipment is installed in the right location and securely mounted
Field wiring is terminated, labeled and matches the drawings
Grounding and bonding are verified
Cable and conduit routing and separation meet the design
Field devices are mounted, aligned and labeled
Damage from shipping or installation is inspected and recorded

3. Pre-power checks

Insulation resistance and continuity tests are completed and recorded
Supply voltage and phase rotation are verified
Protective devices and settings are verified
Emergency stop and safety circuits are checked before motors are run

4. Field devices and loops

Every field input is verified from the device to the controller
Every field output is verified from the controller to the device
Instrument ranges and scaling are checked against the data sheets
Instrument calibration is verified where required
Motor rotation, valve travel and actuator direction are verified
Loop check results are recorded for each point

5. Controls and communications

Network devices communicate with the right addresses and update rates
Drives and devices are configured as documented
Operator screens show the correct values and states
Alarm and event messages are verified
Backups of the final program, parameters and configurations are saved

6. Functional testing

Each operating mode works as specified
Every sequence runs correctly with real equipment
Interlocks and permissives work as specified
Failure modes are tested (power loss, sensor failure, network loss)
Recovery after power failure and restart is verified
Interfaces to other systems are tested

7. Performance and run test

Performance targets are measured against the specification (rates, times, accuracy)
The system runs for the specified period without unexpected faults
Product or process tests are completed where required
Results are recorded against the acceptance criteria

8. Safety verification

Emergency stops are tested on site
Guard interlocks, light curtains and safety devices are tested
Safety functions meet the documented requirements
Warning signs and labels are in place

9. Handover

Operators and maintenance staff are trained
Manuals, as-built drawings and the I/O list are delivered
Spare parts list and recommended spares are handed over
Passwords and access are handed over safely
Punch list items have owners and dates
Owner accepts the results or the open items are agreed in writing
